The not-so-new kids on the block…

jen-and-dev

Before Christmas, we had a couple of news faces join the team. Except, they weren’t so new to DG. And even though Jen and Devon are like part of the furniture now, we thought we’d introduce you to our newest recruit(er)s…

We’re pretty lucky to have the girls as part of their team, both for their fantastic industry experience and knowledge, but also for their wacky humour, randomness and baked goods…

A few things about the guys;

Jen was at iris for almost 2 years as their specialist digital talent consultant and people person. Working alongside senior management, Jen played a big part in building the iris Digital team from 30 to 70+ it is today, as well as raising the office cholesterol levels with never ending cupcake supplies. Jen’s joined DG in a hybrid role – part specialist recruiter focussing on technical roles, and part office manager to keep things all ship-shape and help grow the business.

Loves - Cake, eating and making; talking, mostly about cake; singing in the shower; dancing around her bedroom; popping bubblewrap.

Dislikes - apathy; walking in wet shoes; peas in any format; cake haters.

Most famous for - her shoes; engineering inappropriate conversations on any level, with any one, at any moment;making random spontaneuous, subconscious noises; epic ‘Jen’ rants; cake.

Also an iris graduate, Devon has spent that last year fearlessly trafficking the Digital studio. Before that she whipped the people at LBi into shape. Devon’s joined the team to specialise in PMs and Client Services, and sure knows her stuff..

Likes - B movies;Vegemite; eating other peoples food; laughing at inappropriate things.

Dislikes - slow walkers;big egos; dinner-hoggers; choclate and fruit; chocolate and mint.

Most famous for - cycling – everywhere; walking into inanimate objects; being the only person laughing in an otherwise silent cinema; stumbling into inappropriate conversations; being inappropriate; wrestling a man-sized chicken

We’d like to welcome both Jen and Devon to the DG family. Make sure you say hi when you can…

HTML experiment wins FWA ‘Site of the Day’. Times are a changing…

html5-canvas
We got a pleasant surprise at DG today when we logged onto FWA. Site of the day is 100 Tweets, an excellently executed experiment using HTML5. That would make it the first HTML only to pick up the S.O.T.D award!

Ported from an Flex/AS3 component, the project uses JavaScript and jQuery with HTML5 to recreate the effect – and with great success. With a neat bit of technical wizardry, you get a rich, immersive experience without a hint of Flash. Not only does it look beautiful, move seamlessly, but HTML5 is supported across iphone android-based platforms in favour of Flash. Result.

Looks like those AS3 guys have got some serious competition…

Click. Fail.

dont-click-it2

Now, deep breath and prepare NOT to click. www.dontclick.it is a social experiment put together to investigate our computer habits. Forcing us to change the way we have learnt to interact with the web, this new style of interface prefers motion, cursor placements and timing (along with the occasional keyboard command) opposed to the conventional click. Once you’ve got your head – or should that be hand – around not clicking, there’s a whole load of interesting stuff to discover on this slick and accessible site.

As a user, not only does the site offer a much smoother and relaxing experience, the non-click may just be every RSI (Repetitive Strain Injury) suffers prayers answered through intuitive interface design – the clicking ‘Claw’ would be a welcomes absence in my world.

Check it out and see for yourself; there’s a lot more to clicking, or not clicking than meets the eye. But whatever you do, don’t mess up. Click equals a big fat fail…
