Microsoft’s digital skills programme is the boost the UK needs

With the Government’s digital jobs target of 2020 another year closer, we look at the efforts Microsoft’s taken in boosting the sector’s skills…
This year, we’re totally committed to the cause of boosting the North’s digital skill set. We’re working hard on lots of projects and initiatives that go some way to addressing the looming shortage of skills in the sector; so it certainly warms the cockles to hear of major players doing their bit too…
Microsoft this month announced a groundbreaking, comprehensive national skills programme. Aimed at boosting digital capabilities, the initiative will provide training in everyday digital literacy as well as targeted efforts to equip the UK’s public and private sectors with vital cloud technology skills.
It got some pretty awesome endorsements – including from the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Philip Hammond MP, who said the initiative is: “further evidence that Britain is one of the best places in the world to do digital business” and that the Microsoft scheme would “ensure that we remain at the cutting edge of innovation”.
This and all our collective efforts in the digital sphere are imperative if we’re to fight off the macro-economic factors that arguably hinder the nurturing of digitally skilled people. BREXIT’s the obvious one; just last month our parent company Rethink Group surveyed more than 500 tech candidates to ask whether they’d stay in the UK once the withdrawal process had begun – just 42% said they would – 20% of them fearful of their long term economic prospects.
Together we can bring on the digital revolution and eradicate such fears. Watch this space for details of how you can get involved.
